What is Bright and Shiny

This BLOG!  Bright & Shiny is home to one of my best friends and some of our favorite bloggers.  The boys from B&S come up strong time & time again and are making moves in the scene.  To pay homage to them we here at CPB are taking the time to recognize the great accomplishment they have achieved in getting an interview with the famous French act, Yelle.

Buckle up, sit back, and embed yourself in the curiosity of the French.

For those of you not sure who Yelle may be, and are a little to shy to try a link from another page to find out, don't worry, we'll supply a teaser.  This little ditty even found its way into the Cannes Kids episode of HBO's Entourage.

Viva la Vince.

The Lushest Beats

So these are some jams for you guys to spend your summer days relaxing to. Fred Falke/Alan Braxe/Thin White Duke....all gems to facilitate your lazy summer shumping with friends. Perfect for the beach/Sunday morning after a long night.

Finals.

Okay, I haven't posted in a while, and I've been either studying or dreading studying and quivering like a hermit. But I had my music library on shuffle and rediscovered this gem, Jump by Albin Myers. It kind of reminds me big swing songs with all the horns and up-paced beat, but at the same time it seems like, "Someone told me Bruce Willis is dead before I saw The 6th Sense" and by that I mean the song is like Float On by Modest Mouse. The type of song where you are not sure if it's a happy song or a sad song. But Jump isn't that far, its more towards happy. Maybe it's just the rain today.

Who Has Heard of Kayne

Then excellent, my post of a singular classic Daft Punk song that started a revolution with the Black Panther's best friend Kanye West will suffice for some background on Viewlife's most influential post.

Always a friend,

Sebastian

Who is this man?

With all the new electronic music coming out and forcing its way into the mainstream, there seems to be a loss of the sense for why we are here.  Any asshole with a mac can now make music, and our standards for music are rapidly deteriorating.  (heres looking at you most dubstep)  I just wanted to get a little nostalgic with a DJ who in my opinion, is the greatest ever.  If you dont recognize the picture above, heres a hint:
And if you cant recognize that picture, im not so sure youre on the right blog.  The aforementioned is Thomas Bangalter, one half of Daft Punk, for which we owe everything EDM related in America today.

I dont want to just post all the classic Daft Punk songs (Ill assume you are familiar) but id rather open your eyes to the solo work of Thomas Bangalter.

I can honestly say without hearing him, there is no way im involved in this culture at all today.

Such an energetic song, maybe not good for the clubs, but great for driving fast down the highway

Extra Dry:

You may absolutely hate this song at first, but i urge you to give it a few plays to see if it will grow.  I love the way he lets the vocals break down the beat

What to do:

Top 10 favorite song of all time, simplistic yet perfect

Club Soda:

and lastly a live set on Busy P's birthday in which he plays with most of the Ed Banger Records crew. (much more to come on them later)

Stay Classy

I Love Orange Soda

Between Orange Soda and Root Beer, who needs Coke?

Newly stumbled upon Finger Prince pop, fizzled and quenched the thirst out of Botswana and has started filling up the stomachs of Boy 8 Bit tunes such as this little machine, "Yard Birds."

Come Home (To House)

Coming Home (Dirty South Remix):

Jacksons Last Stand (Hook and Sling Remix):

Garden Friends (Laidback Luke Remix):

Detroit Bounce:

Keep it classy CP ;)

I know I know... dubstep.

Yeah its dubstep, and its probably dubstep at its worst/best depending on what side of the field you stand. Either way, I can't stop listening to this. Partly because it makes me giggle and partly because it makes me nod my head, at least when i'm listening to this in the closet when no one is around.

Sanctuary remix

It is clear I am representing a more trancey side of this blog so here we go. Great remix to a great song.

And continuing the theme heres a short version of a good intro beat builder Gareth has been using recently open his sets.

Confusion: Necessary

Now, we know you've all heard Wolfgang Gartner.  He is a mega star.  But, we at CPB managed to stumble upon a sweet little jem of a mashup that is bound to leave you wondering what is going on.

Or at least thats what we hope.

Remember, don't do drugs.

Up and Coming

Hey guys, I think I'm gunna start concentrating on up and coming artists (since thats what I do best). I'm gunna start with an artist that goes by the alias "VIP LIST". All hes got to work with is a laptop, but let's just say there's an abundance of lemonade (pun intended). He released a couple songs on his EP "Three Drops From the Top". I wouldn't mind the tracks being a bit longer =). Check it out:

Finding talent for your hearing pleasure =)

Welcome To Air CPB

Laidback Luke, our Dutch friend aka Luke van Scheppingen
Steve Aoki, our American counterpart and owner of Dim Mak Records (
Sidney Samson, a Dutch citizen dropping for Spin and Ultra Records
Lil' Jon, YEAHHHH

What do they all have in common?  When compiled they managed to take a mainstream song that grabs the bull by the balls (even though bulls have no balls, thanks Hemingway) and turn it into a thumper.

Turbulence was originally released by LBL and Aoki with Lil' Jon on vocals - but as soon as the Remix's came flying out of the wood work, one stood out.  Sidney Samson took Turbulence and flipped it into a driving force behind the synthesized world we now live in.

Viva la electronic music

And, simply for convenience (and that we love you), the original:

Dirty Sexy House Music

If you have been around me at all in the past week or two you have heard this song.  Absolute dance-floor destroyer.  Big room house at its finest.  If youre trying to crack out skip to 1:45 for the build and drop.

Free Skrillex Song!

Skrillex released a free song on his Facebook and Twitter yesterday. Its pretty solid, but I wouldn't call it top notch. Either way, its free. You can check his Facebook page and get the download link, or you can just use this one http://www.megaupload.com/?d=XJTI8PX2

Here is a low quality sample. Even though its free, you should download from the megaupload just in case Skrillex and his management are keeping track of how many downloads it gets.

Also, I will no longer be doing any homage posts. They're interesting, but lets be honest, you aren't going to play them at a party anytime soon.

I'll Bet You're Hungry

Straight out of England comes Jon Gooch, or better known under his Drum & Bass alias Spor.  After becoming a strong member of the D&B scene Gooch opened his horizons and took on a new persona, one that we here at CPB find to be quite flattering - Feed Me.

Feed Me is Gooch's side house/dubstep project signed to Deadmau5's mou5trap lable.  Out of the label have come a 2 track E.P. that was followed up with 2010's release of Feed Me's Big Adventure.  The drop came to huge acclaim and gave Gooch motivation for a new E.P. that is currently in the works.

Muscle Rollers (ft. Kill the Noise) is a track off of the loved Big Adventure.

Enjoy the heart wrenching drop that is a staple in Feed Me's heavy house.

Stickin' - SonicC

Wolfgang Garnter opened with this at Glow last weekend and I was finally able to figure out the name of the song.  Best played with some good headphones/speakers.  Its a great way to bring a crowd together at a concert, especially a festival.  Should probably be dropped into a heavier hitting song, but regardless it brings back good memories.

Tip: Play the song and then mute the video below and play it at the same time

Also if the glitchy house doesn't do it for you, heres a slightly more user friendly sound:

Whats that there, in the air

Ah, a fist pump.  Necessary and proper.  Couple that with a Swedish head bop and some groovin' knee shakin' - what do you get?

Style of Eye aka Linus Eklow is a Swedish up and coming hot pick.  Already with two releases The Big Kazoo E.P. from Dirtybird and The Prophet out of Pickadoll he is making moves in the electronic scene.

Keep an ear to the ground and an eye on CPB for updates.

Smash

Martin Solveig has been releasing his new album via a series of short movies called 'Smash'.  So far 3 have been put up and Solveig has tweeted about episode 4 on the way soon and episode 5 is currently filming.

Each video revolves around one song on the album, with the first one being the incredibly popular 'Hello', a song that has been remixed (unfortunately) by everyone.  I personally am somewhat sick of Hello but the other two songs 'Initial SHE' and 'Ready 2 Go' are fantastic.

The videos also use some great characters and a bunch of French humor.  It feels very 'flight-of-the-choncordian' and I mean that in the good way.

Check it out and be on the lookout for more episodes as they are released.

Homage Part 2

Tainted love. You've heard it, it's been remixed before. Originally recorded in 1964 by Gloria Jones it sounds just like the 60s, and nothing out of the ordinary there. Have a listen if you like.

But probably the rendition you know the best is the 1981 version by Soft Cell. Its by far the best possible rendition. It brings in drum machines as well as other electronic style noises which are pretty new for the time. The video is kind of weird as the top comments will tell you. But I get it, and it's fitting for the song.

It was remixed in 1991 around the time electro music was really starting to make moves. Its hard to notice some of the differences in the song, other than the obvious sound quality improvement, but I still like the '81 version better.

Marilyn Manson did the next cover, which you can search for if you want. Its okay, I guess. He changed to much of it, slowing it down really took away the dance aspect of it. Pity.
